In Madagascar in ancient times there lived huge birds, which in the scientific world are called epiornis. Scientists among themselves call them elephant birds. The body of the epiornis was so large and heavy that such a bird simply did not take off. Until our time, of course, they have not survived and died out about 520 thousand years ago. But in some areas of Madagascar, archaeologists have found many well-preserved remains.

According to them, experts will be able to reliably and accurately tell about their lifestyle and the structure of the body. It turned out that the adult epiornis weighed about 450-600 kilograms with a height of 2.7-3.2 meters. However, scientists believe that individual individuals weighed more than one ton. Also, experts believe that all giant birds were exterminated by the first people. They drove them into trees where it was difficult for the epiornis to move and beat them with sticks and stones.
